Visual Storytelling: Putting Data into Context
65% of people are visual learners, and only 17% are data literate. Because graphics are an important method of showing complex systems - visuals (including data visualization, infographics and visual storytelling) can be a useful tool to help audiences relate to and connect with ever-growing mountains of data.
This presentation is an introduction to applying visual narrative to data. Learn about work that is being done on the study of visuals in environmental communication, and how research and other information can be translated into visuals to increase engagement. This session introduces some basic principles of information design and methods to visually present data and information in a way that is relevant to audiences. The presentation will include examples of visuals and other creative projects created by Background Stories, and other creatives.
