Denene Jonielle Rodney
In the heart of Tanzania on safari, a guide looks on at the zebras in front of them. He says that although one might think all zebras look the same, each one has its own unique stripe pattern. For Denene, this said it all. Zebra Strategies was born.
At Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Communications, Denene earned her Bachelor’s degree. She went on to earn her Master’s at New York University and started her decorated career in Market Research. Now with over two decades of experience in the industry, Zebra Strategies serves as a beacon for multidisciplinary, full-service quantitative and qualitative research: specializing in design, moderating and recruiting. Denene has created a space wherein the nuances of one’s background: their race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and age are taken into consideration, and appreciated.
To talk to Denene is to know that she can talk to anyone. She uses her warmth and humor to make those around her feel comfortable. When moderating, she creates a safe space for people to feel free to tell her almost anything about them. She knows that when we try to group people together and attest that they must be the same because they all check a particular box “we lose the opportunity to learn.” We have seen the market implications when large corporations fail to take into account the nuance of one’s individuality, when they overlook the stripes. Denene is a reminder that this is an industry about people.
