MD – Sen. Bryan W. Simonaire (R-31) introduced S.B. 527, which would forbid automated calls to a residential phone line in Anne Arundel County if such line is registered on the national Do Not Call Registry and the purpose of the automated call is: “(1) promoting a political candidate; or (2) advertising, campaigning, or soliciting donations for or against a political candidate” or “relating to a political issue”.
The bill does not define “automated calls”, which might be only robocalls or could implicate the use of a simple autodialer.
Since “relating to a political issue” could include any political or public opinion poll, MRA will seek to amend or defeat S.B. 527 to defend political research calls in Anne Arundel County.
