VA – Delegate Rob B Bell (R-58) introduced H.B. 905, legislation which would establish a do not call registry for Virginians who do not wish to receive calls using an automated dialing-announcing device (ADAD). Unfortunately, such restrictions could include automated research calls. Chapter 44.1 of the Virginia Code defines an ADAD as a “device that (i) selects and dials telephone numbers and (ii) working alone or in conjunction with other equipment, disseminates a prerecorded or synthesized voice message to the telephone number called.”
MRA has contacted Delegate Bell and will seek to either amend or defeat this legislation to protect automated research.
